UX Engineer (SE1-3)

OPS Consulting is seeking an experienced System Engineer to support a large software development program developing, operating, and maintaining mission critical enterprise capabilities. Program includes development and support for existing mission systems in parallel with effort to develop and deliver modernized cloud native, microservice-based architecture. Team applies Agile methodology, DevOps principles and behavior and test driven development practices.

Qualified candidates should have direct working experience with the following:
  • Have deep understanding of the end user markets and segments (using personas).
  • Direct the visual appearance of all new features and enhancements on software applications.
  • Initiate, suggest, and spearhead intuitive user experience.
  • Design elegant solutions to complex workflows – creating a design that is usable, engaging and valuable.
  • Act as the user-advocate during the development process, subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review, and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centered perspective. 
  • Act as 'go-to' with in-depth knowledge of user interface best practices and standards.
  • Take ownership of the user experience by meeting user needs.
Education Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional software engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Seven (7) years experience in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity within the Federal Government is required. Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities needed.
  • 7+ years of relative experience
  • 5+ years of user experience design experience for software, web applications
  • Exceptional design skills, production value, attention to detail, and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to create product concepts that are user friendly
  • Experience with user interface design patterns and standard UCD methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Understanding of common software project management and development practices
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary user-centered design methodologies
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript / JQuery, is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these skills will be given preferential consideration.
  • Experience with delivery of integrations solution within a 3 month Spin Cycle.
  • Strong working knowledge of Photoshop and Balamiq.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and to effectively prioritize workload to meet deadlines and work objectives.
  • In-depth understanding of the underlying business needs and workflow of the end users.
  • Understanding of 508 best practices and scoring.
Security Clearance:
  • A current government clearance, background investigation, and polygraph are required.
